Quezon is now Manageable Conflict Area

Camp Nakar, Lucena City- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) thru the 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division, Philippine Army, the Philippine National Police, Provincial Government of Quezon and other stakeholders, formally declared today, September 8, the Province of Quezon as a ‘Conflict Manageable and Ready for Further Development’ (CMRFD) in a ceremony at Bulwagang Kalilayan Hall, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Compound, Lucena City.

The memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed by Quezon Governor David C. Suarez and Major General Romeo G. Gan, Commander of the 2nd Infantry Division and Police Chief Superintendent Valfrie G. Tabian, Acting Regional Director PRO-4A in the presence of the Commander Southern Luzon Command AFP Lieutenant General Ferdinand F. Quidilla and Colonel Lenard T. Agustin, Commander of 20st Infantry Brigade.

The MOU states that through the collaborative efforts of the Provincial Government of Quezon, the AFP and other stakeholders reduced the security threats in the province into significant level thereby making it relatively peaceful and ready for further development.

It also states that the Provincial Government of Quezon will take the lead role in the implementation of socio-economic programs supported by the AFP and the PNP.

This year, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Quezon signed a resolution declaring Quezon as CMRFD.

Quezon once became a hotbed of insurgency since notable numbers of New People’s Army (NPA) rebels and cadres operates in the area with its peak in 2001. On the other hand, after four decades of its futile armed struggle, it has reached its weakest point this year.

“I salute the Quezonians for putting their best foot forward in making Quezon peaceful and now ready for further development. Your Armed Forces of the Philippines together with the police and the Local Government of Quezon will remain active in its quest of bringing peace and security to the people.

I would like to thank the people of Quezon for having been a part of my life and my military career. I am happy that Quezon is now a Conflict Manageable and ready for further development province which I believe I have contribute my part and it is the results of sacrifices of every soldiers, sailors, airmen and CAFGU Active Auxiliaries of the AFP “SOLCOM Chief Lieutenant General Quidilla said.”

Quezon is the 12th CMRFD declared under Southern Luzon Command’s (SOLCOM) area of responsibility.
